Blog fade: Don't let it happen to you!
- Have you grown beyond a monthly email newsletter?
- Have you established a blog as an online presence for your content marketing efforts?
- Are you committed to posting 2-5 times per month?
Congratulations, you're a Content Marketer!
Unfortunately, many coaches either never get to that level of frequency, or they're so inconsistent with their blogging that it's affecting their credibility.
I'm sure you've had this experience as a website visitor:
- Click. Services. This looks good, this might be just what I need!
- Click. About. Hey, we have a lot in common, you really seem to know where I'm coming from.
- Click. Blog. Hey, wait a second. All I see is a few posts from last month/year - what happened??? Are they still in business? Is something wrong with the website? Why didn't they fix it? Did they just stop writing? Do they leave other things unfinished? What kind of commitment can I expect to me and my work?
Like it or or not, blog fade raises doubts about you, your commitment and your capability.
Are you headed towards blog fade?
The three biggest causes of blog fade are:
- Lack of planning. You had the best intentions to blog every month, every week or every day, and assumed that would just happen. Maybe you've planned out some of your content, but did you make time in your schedule for the brainstorming, drafting, writing and editing that are all part of the writing process?
- Perfectionism. You have plenty of ideas to write about, but you're not sure they're good enough. Are you trying to produce brand new, mind-blowing original work in every post?
- Gap in skills. Before you make a commitment and open your blogging habits up to public scrutiny, have you considered what supports you might need to make the most of your natural strengths and compensate for your challenges?
Do any of those sound like you? Then you might be headed towards blog fade, if you're not there already. As part of my mission to take a stand for the quality of your content, I am now offering Content Action Coaching for Content Marketers.
